Children's Discovery Center Staff Austin Preschool Nature-based Reggio Emilia

Children's Discovery Center is composed of a staff with various educational backgrounds and follow the training guidelines set forth by Texas Rising Star for Austin preschools.

Here at CDC we find the right fit for each classroom. We seek out natural educators who understand and take our philosophy to heart. Our teachers work along side the children allowing them the freedom to explore the world at their leisure and at their direction, while setting age appropriate boundaries and limits to make sure they feel safe. Our philosophy combines some of the teachings of the greatest educators of our times - Jean Piaget, John Dewey, Erik Erikson, Bev Bos and Reggio Emilia's Loris Malaguzzi. Each of our schools has a 4-star rating from Texas Rising Star, the highest rating they award. Our teachers are required to get 24 hours of training upon employment and 30 hours of training annual. They are all CPR and First Aid Certified and comply with all standards established by the Texas Department of Family and Public Services and Texas Rising Star. Children's Discovery Center believes in a living wage and does not pay permanent staff less than $10 per hour. Check out each school's individual staff page to get to know the directors and teachers better.

Annual Staff Development Training

Once every year we bring together all three CDC campuses for a special training. We bring in the best trainer we can afford to inspire and enhance our staff. The cost of this training can be anywhere between $1,500 to $8,000. This is one of the MANY trainings that CDC hosts or attends.

The field of early childhood education is constantly evolving. Educators reflect on their teaching strategies and the effect of their work and form new ideas about child development. At Children's Discovery Center we like to keep our staff ahead of the curve. Exploring new approaches brought to the world of education by progressive thinkers. Training is essential to having a staff that is both engaged and active in searching out best practices in the early childhood field.
